Is Everything Fixed in Life?

Does this question ever arise in your mind? For me, yes—many times. There are moments when I wonder why certain things never happened despite my efforts, while on the other hand, some events unfolded in ways I could have never imagined. Life seems to move at its own pace and in its own mysterious way. We are merely participants in this grand play, performing the tasks that come our way.

Often, we live under the illusion that we are in control—believing that we are the doers, the planners, the decision-makers. But when you look deeper, it feels as though everything is happening by itself, governed by an invisible force—a supreme power that silently organizes every event in this world.

Once you truly understand and accept this fact, two perspectives naturally emerge.

First, when you start realizing that you are not the actual doer, but simply the means through which things happen, life becomes peaceful. You stop overthinking and worrying about the outcomes because you know everything is already planned and unfolding as it should. You simply do what comes your way, without being anxious about what will happen next. This acceptance brings immense calmness, as you learn to flow with life rather than resist it.

Second, however, there’s another side to this realization. You may start to wonder—if everything is already fixed, then why should I make an effort? If my actions or achievements are pre-decided, why should I strive to give my best? This thought can sometimes take away the enthusiasm or passion for doing things.

And that’s where balance is needed.

In truth, both perspectives are part of the same reality. Everything is indeed destined, but that destiny also includes your efforts, your desires, and your dedication. Your hard work and your choices are all part of the plan written for you. So, the best way to live is to combine both views—give your best effort, but without attachment to the result.

When you learn to live this way, peace naturally follows. You act sincerely, but you don’t stress over what comes next. You stop over-planning the future and instead start living fully in the present moment. You begin to accept life as it unfolds, with an open heart and without resistance.

This understanding also changes the way you see others. You stop feeling jealous or angry because you realize that everyone is simply doing what they are meant to do. The supreme power has assigned a unique role to each person—some are artists, some are leaders, some are healers, and some are learners. Even those who hurt or challenge you are part of your story, perhaps sent to teach you something important.

When this realization settles deep within you, life becomes lighter. You stop blaming others, stop worrying excessively, and stop comparing yourself with anyone. You start to see harmony even in chaos, meaning even in pain, and divine order in what once felt like disorder.

Believe me, once you begin to truly understand that everyone—including you—is simply performing the role designed by that supreme power, you’ll find that peace is not something to be achieved. It’s already there, within you. All you need to do is realize it.
